Writer Michael Lamm takes a look at the Mustang I concept and Ford's focus on Total Performance in the '60s. It was getting beat by small-block Chevys and Hemi V8s for hot-rodder hearts, until Don Frey stepped in.

Ford got the Mustang, it got the GT-40 and it got wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. You could probably call that a success. You can still see this Mustang concept at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich.
