As I continue my journey down the rabbit hole of capturing wrecking yards with vintage photographic equipment, the cameras I use just keep getting older. A few months ago, 1950s cameras seemed reasonably ancient, but 1940s and then 1930s and 1920s photographic technology seemed to capture the atmosphere of 2018 wrecking yards very well. A 1919 German camera? Perfect! A postwar Soviet camera tough enough to hammer nails? Of course! Now I'm going back to the earliest days of roll-film cameras, with wrecking-yard photography done with cameras that knock on the door of the 19th century.
