When the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was announced a few months ago with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, we knew it wasn’t going to be enough for the Hennessey Performance brand. On Tuesday, the Texas tuner made our predictions come true with The Exorcist, a 1,000-hp, 966 lb-ft ZL1 upgrade.
“Equipped with rear drag radial tires, The Exorcist will deliver 0-60 mph times under 3 seconds while running the quarter-mile mile in less than 10 seconds,” said company founder and president, John Hennessey.
But Hennessey also says The Exorcist won’t just be a quarter-mile killer.
“It’s a well-rounded super muscle car that is just as happy on a road course as it is on the drag strip and street.”
Hennessey-induced upgrades include a higher-flow supercharger, ported factory cylinder heads, camshaft upgrade, long-tube stainless-steel headers, high-flow air-induction system and a custom engine-management calibration.
Top speed is estimated at 220 mph with the automatic transmission.
The Exorcist upgrade will set you back $55,000, in addition to the price of a new ZL1, which is currently set at $63,435, including destination and gas guzzler tax. Automatics — perish the thought — cost an extra $9,950.
The optional drag pack, which includes two 20-inch wheels with Nitto drag tires, a driveshaft upgrade, floor jack and tool kit, costs $8,995. The optional road-race pack comes with a set of four Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and starts at $6,995.
Only 100 will be produced, and if you are so inclined, you can pick yours up at Hennessey’s headquarters in Texas.
The Exorcist will make its public debut at the Houston Auto Show on Wednesday, April 5. Go to hennesseyperformance.com for more information.
