Junkyard Treasure: 1988 Subaru Justy 4WD RS

In 1988, car shoppers could buy reasonably fuel-efficient four-wheel-drive cars from Toyota, Honda and Nissan, but even the very affordable Corolla All-Trac listed at $12,418 (about 26 grand in 2017 dollars). If you wanted an Audi 80 Quattro, you were looking at $22,700 (about 48 grand in 2017 bucks). Sure, those cars had what we now call all-wheel drive instead of old-fashioned manual-switching-required four-wheel drive, but it's hard to argue with the $7,663 ($16K today) 1988 Subaru Justy 4WD RS from a bang-for-the-buck standpoint. Quite a few of the little Justy 4WD cars were sold back then, and here's a rare example that survived nearly to age 30, spotted in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service wrecking yard.
