When Autoweek editors finally got hold of the new rear-drive 964, we were impressed by the car's balance but more interested in Porsche's new Tiptronic automatic transmission. Not only was it the best automatic on the planet for a sports car, it was also the most expensive at $3,355 in addition to the 911's cost. One item of note — the photo editors appear to have been distracted when laying out this spread; that's clearly a 4-cylinder 944 engine pictured with the 911…and a 911 engine paired with the 944 sidebar at the end.
