And then there was the 996: In late 1997, Kevin Wilson drove the new water-cooled, completely redesigned Porsche 911, presciently noting that 'traditionalists may warm to it slowly." Yes and no — the car sold very well, but it's become something of a lost generation on the used car market due to engine teething troubles and the car's Boxster resemblance. Still, Wilson also reminds us at the time the 996 was "a demonstrably better car by far."
