For the past decade, I have been looking for interesting facets of automotive history in wrecking yards. During these junkyard travels, I have photographed more than a thousand vehicles (plus hundreds of Little Tree air fresheners), and many of those cars and trucks went to their demise with Chrysler Slant-6 engines under their hoods. Even though the last new motor vehicle to get Slant-6 power rolled off the assembly line in 1987, these nearly immortal engines held together so well that plenty of them made it into our current century. Here’s a big gallery of Slant-6 engines photographed in wrecking yards in California, Colorado, and Arizona, from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
