Fake badging on cars is hardly a new phenomenon. The streets are full of BMWs adorned with fake M badges and non-VTEC-equipped Hondas plastered with decals claiming otherwise.
Usually, this sort of behavior is reserved for making a crappy car look cooler. However, this bizarre case of automotive identity swapping involves a machine that’s capable of running with the world’s best sports cars.
Someone looked at a C7 Chevrolet Corvette and thought: “This is nice, but you know what would make it better? Turning it into a fake Ferrari!”
A Reddit user found this prancing-horse poser in the wild. Whoever tried to mask this Corvette’s American roots went to a decent amount of trouble, replacing the center caps on the wheels and swapping the Corvette badging on the rear valance with Ferrari pieces.
If you squint after a couple of pints at the bar, a Ferrari 599 could bear some resemblance to the current 'Vette. Still, you’d have to get up pretty early in the morning to fool someone into thinking this car was born in Maranello and not Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Automotive alchemists, take note: trying to turn your car into something it’s not isn’t really fooling anyone. Those who aren't in the know don’t care, and those who are will just make fun of you on the internet. Moral of the story? Just be proud of what you have, especially if it’s the basis for a mad machine like the Corvette ZR1.
