Trump name makes consumers less likely to buy, more likely to boycott

Donald Trump has long used his name to boost his various business projects, from high-profile real estate developments and golf resorts to lesser-known ventures such as Trump Steaks and Trump Vodka.

But new market survey data from Simmons Research suggest the Trump presidency may be having a negative effect on his name’s potential influence among consumers.

The research firm asked people three questions:

1. Would you be more likely to use a product endorsed by President Trump?

2. Would you be less likely to use a product endorsed by President Trump?

3. Would you actively boycott a product endorsed by President Trump?

Nearly 50% of Americans told Simmons they would be less likely to use a product or service endorsed by Mr. Trump. Only 18% in the Simmons Research consumer survey say a Trump endorsement would make them more likely to use a product or service.
