Atlantic City video gaming championship draws 40K viewers

ATLANTIC CITY — Thousands of viewers watched online and in person for the first-ever eSports video game championship event held in Atlantic City over the weekend with a top prize of $70,000.

At one point, 40,000 people were online watching the Gears Pro Circuit Atlantic City Open, which was held at Caesars from Friday through Sunday, according to PressofAtlanticCity.com.

Optic Gaming took the title and the $70,000 first-place prize by sweeping Team Envyus in the best-of-3 final. Envyus won the $45,000 second prize.

The top 12 teams won money, with teams 9 through 12 each collecting $2,500.

Each team consisted of five players competing on Gears of War 4, a third-person shooter video game on xBoxOne.
