OCEAN CITY — Gale Force, the new steel roller coaster at Playland’s Castaway Cove in Ocean City, is just about ready.
Located at the Boardwalk and 10th Street, the coaster that will take riders on a 64 mile-per-hour adventure that reaches heights of 125 feet above the boardwalk, is scheduled to open sometime in May, according to OCNJDaily.com.
“We constantly get phone calls, emails, and Facebook messages asking us when the roller coaster will open,” Playland’s Vice President Brian Hartley told OCNJDaily.com. “The buzz has been going on for almost a year and a half now.”
Luckily for those enthusiasts, the ride first announced in July 2015 is in the testing and inspection phase, and will debut in less than two months, according to OCNJDaily.com.
Hartley said Gale Force is a “very, very fast ride.”
Playland’s Castaway Cove is Ocean City’s oldest amusement park, dating back to 1959. The park has survived by evolving with the times, yet maintaining some of its old fashioned charm.
Playland’s Castaway Cove is located between 10th and 11th streets on the Boardwalk, and is currently open on Saturdays and Sundays through Memorial Day. In June, the park will be open nightly, and all day once school lets out for the summer. The park remains open through Columbus Day.
