NaVorro Bowman is confident “someone” will sign former 49ers teammate Colin Kaepernick.
Kaepernick has been a free agent since March 3 without being publicly connected to any potential suitor.
Should Kaepernick be on a roster, even if it’s not the 49ers’ as coach Kyle Shanahan forges ahead with free agent acquisitions Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley?
“I think he should,” Bowman replied Monday at the start of the 49ers’ offseason program. “He’s proven he can play at this level. You know, he’s made a choice that’s kind of had a little backlash from it.
“He will be fine. Someone will give him a job,” Bowman continued. “He’s not a bad guy or anything. That’s what matters than anything in the NFL, if you can play at this level and if you’re character’s great. I wish him the best.”
Running back Carlos Hyde also expressed disbelief that Kaepernick remains unemployed.
“Yeah, I am surprised. I’ve seen some quarterbacks got signed that Kap is way better than, in my opinion,” Hyde said. “But I’m not a GM, not a head coach. That’s out of my league.”
Kaepernick has remained out of the league while a slew of other quarterbacks have found new homes beside Hoyer and Barkley. Those include Chase Daniel (Saints), Nick Foles (Eagles), Mike Glennon (Bears), Josh McCown (Jets), Aaron Murray (Rams), Geno Smith (Giants), Case Keenum (Vikings), Mark Sanchez (Bears), E.J. Manuel (Raiders), T.J. Yates (Bills) and Matt McGloin (Eagles).
