After adding several offensive pieces during free agency, the Raiders’ focus for the early rounds of the NFL Draft is on defense.
That puts general manager Reggie McKenzie in a unique spot. McKenzie hasn’t drafted an inside linebacker early throughout his tenure in the NFL. Given the team’s lack of experience and depth at the position, finding an inside linebacker is arguably priority No. 1 for the Raiders.
On the in-studio premiere of Bay Area Sports Insiders, Courtney Cronin is joined by Jimmy Durkin and Jerry McDonald to discuss what Oakland might do with the 24th overall pick, including options for an inside linebacker and at cornerback.
In the later rounds, the team will need to address bolstering its interior pass rush with a defensive tackle and filling the hole left by running back Latavius Murray during free agency. Will Beastmode Mania come to fruition with the signing of Marshawn Lynch? We’ll discuss what happens if the Oakland native isn’t signed by the end of the week and other options, including former Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon, that might be available for the Raiders on Day 2 and 3 of the draft.
