Colin Kaepernick’s No. 7 will be used next season by a 49ers QB

2 min read

Last year’s hottest jersey by team-and-number combination will be around again, despite Colin Kaepernick’s departure from the 49ers.

While Kaepernick and Blain Gabbert are no longer with the 49ers, the uniform numbers they donned last season will be used again by quarterbacks. Matt Barkley went with the No. 7 that Kaepernick wore a year ago and Brian Hoyer picked No. 2, Gabbert’s number in 2016,

Barkley’s selection is especially noteworthy since Kaepernick’s jersey was the NFL’s hottest seller as the season began and his national anthem protest gained traction.

Another quirk is Tim Hightower’s No. 26, after the running back declined to go with Frank Gore’s No. 21.

Wide receiver Pierre Garcon switched to No. 15 from No. 88, which he wore in Washington, while last year’s No. 15 (DeAndre Smelter) is now No. 18.

Below is the full list of jersey changes and additions for next season, per 49ers.com:
