Mike Brown drew the ire of Tony Brothers in a whole new way Sunday night.
Brothers, an NBA referee with a history with the Warriors, disliked a joke Brown made in his direction during an interview after Golden State’s win over the Cavaliers in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. So Brown said sorry and moved on, mentioning how nice it was to have head coach Steve Kerr back on the bench.
But the exchange is endlessly entertaining, especially considering the Warriors once lost seven straight games officiated by Brothers.
Notably, Brown made a point of stopping Brothers to have the ref in earshot of his wisecrack. Asked by ABC7’s Mike Shumann what it was like to have Kerr return in full, Brown saw Brothers passing by and urged the ref to pause in his stride.
“When I found out Tony was going to be officiating the game, I was like, ‘Man, I’m glad I’m not coaching tonight,’” Brown said with a smile.
Brothers did not find that humorous, shooting Brown a pretty blank stare.
“Hey Tony, what’s that look for?” Brown said to Brothers before turning back to Shumann. “That’s the same look he gave me tonight.”

Upon a comment from Brothers, Brown demurred.
“For what? OK. I’m sorry,” Brown said. “My bad, I’m sorry. You have a good one.”
Brown followed his prank with politeness and Warriors fans are likely to laugh at the interaction.
