WATCH: Madison Bumgarner first-ever pitcher to homer twice on Opening Day

Madison Bumgarner made history again.

The Giants ace became the first pitcher to hit two home runs on Opening Day with a couple of dingers Sunday. Career homers Nos. 15 and 16 also made him the franchise leader in home runs by a Giants pitcher.

Bumgarner took Diamondbacks ace Zach Grienke yard in the fifth inning and then, after Arizona tied the game at 3-3, he smacked another homer for a 4-3 lead in the seventh. Both homers left Bumgarner’s bat at a mind-blowing 112 miles per hour, according to StatCast.

Bumgarner’s second homer came off reliever Andrew Chafin. And with that, he became the first Giants pitcher in 32 years to homer twice in a game.

Twitter certainly enjoyed the pitcher’s power display. His name trended across the U.S. with 16,000-plus tweets in the hour following his first homer.
